Understanding the logical origin of the Hilbert space formalism of quantum mechanics has been one of the core aspirations of research into the foundations of this theory, pursued
in different approaches in the 20th century. In this talk I give a bird's eye (re)view of these developments and may indicate some links with recent work aiming to give (quantum) information theoretic postulates for quantum mechanics.
